Surgeon Anton Kistanov from Kostanay Regional Hospital, who was assaulted by a patient, will be transported by air ambulance to the National Centre for Emergency Medicine in Astana.

According to the Telegram channel «HALYQSTAN», this decision was made during a teleconference with doctors in the capital.

“Participants discussed ways to provide further assistance to the injured 34-year-old colleague, who is in a serious condition,” the statement said.

It has become known that the doctor was diagnosed with a closed craniocerebral injury, severe brain contusion, acute subdural haemorrhage on the right, contusion foci at the poles of the frontal lobes, as well as an extensive closed linear fracture of the occipital bone.

Kostanay doctors reported that there has been no deterioration in Kistanov’s condition.

It is noted that after the attack, the suspect in the assault was referred to another doctor, who offered to perform surgery. However, he refused, explaining that he did so because he “does not trust doctors,” who are “angry” with him.

For context, the attack on Kistanov occurred after the completion of a complex operation. The surgeon went down to the admissions department to continue examining patients. One of those waiting in line was behaving aggressively and struck the doctor on the head. As a result, the medic lost consciousness. The victim was taken to the intensive care unit. His condition is assessed as serious. The attacker was detained.
