Gold worth approximately 170 million tenge was found on the driver of a Lexus car at the Kazakh-Kyrgyz border.
According to ORDA, gold bars weighing more than 3 kg were attempted to be illegally taken out of Kyrgyzstan into Kazakhstan.
"On 17 September, a Lexus heading to Kazakhstan was stopped at the 'Ken-Bulun' checkpoint. A hidden compartment containing 3.3 kg of gold bars was found in the car. The owner had no permits," the statement said.
At present, Kyrgyzstan's security services are calculating the damage caused.
Earlier, in Astana, a sentence was passed on the deputy head of a customs post at the capital's international airport. She was accused of accepting a bribe from a female citizen who was convicted for importing undeclared medical drugs and gold items valued at 57 million tenge.
