The border service of the National Security Committee has prevented the smuggling of a large consignment of drugs across the state border.
According to the press service of the department, in May of this year at the B. Konysbayev checkpoint in the Turkestan region, border guards discovered 775 kg of heroin in a lorry, which were concealed in containers for shoe polish.
It is reported that the value of this quantity of drugs on the 'black' market could exceed $15 million.
"Two foreign citizens have been detained on suspicion of committing this crime and taken into custody by court order. A pre-trial investigation is being carried out," the statement said.
Earlier, officials from the Financial Monitoring Agency prevented an attempt to bring 3.5 kg of drugs from Thailand into Kazakhstan.
In addition, it was reported that the military court of the Akmola garrison sentenced a lieutenant colonel who was distributing hashish to 9 years in prison. He was caught red-handed while placing vials of hashish oil on the window grilles of a residential building, securing them with magnets.
