Officers of the National Security Committee (KNB) have uncovered an attempt to illegally import 80,000 ampoules of medication at the Altynkol checkpoint in the Zhetysu region.
"On 16 August 2024, the KNB border service at the Altynkol railway checkpoint in the Zhetysu region prevented an attempt to smuggle a large batch of medication," the agency's press service reported.
It was reported that the medicinal products of unknown origin, lacking accompanying documentation, were discovered in a railway container.
"The cargo has been handed over to the regional department of economic investigations for a procedural decision," the agency stated.
Earlier, a sentence was passed in Astana on the deputy head of the customs post at the capital's international airport. She was accused of accepting a bribe from a woman who was convicted of importing undeclared gold items and medical medication.
