In Shymkent, 22 people sought medical help after an unknown liquid spilled on the road.
According to 24.kz, the victims fell ill after walking or driving past a lorry with a tank parked on the roadside, from which a yellow liquid was leaking, with an unpleasant smell of gas.
It is reported that the emergency department eliminated the leak, and the vehicle was moved to a safe distance from populated areas. Meanwhile, the lorry driver stated that he does not know the contents of the tank.
According to the ecology department, elevated levels of ammonia, propane, methane, and petroleum hydrocarbons were recorded in the air. The laboratory is currently determining what the liquid is.
"Many residents and those passing by felt a suffocating, sharp smell. Among them were two children born in 2021 and 2023. First aid has been provided. At the moment, all patients have been discharged home after receiving treatment," said Madina Yermakhanbetova, chief physician of the Centre for Hyperbaric Oxygenation.
Earlier, in Aktau, two young children died as a result of poisoning by an unknown substance, after a neighbour on the floor below treated her apartment with a bedbug remedy. Later, the court found the woman guilty and sentenced her to 5 years in prison.
It was also reported that the developer of a five-storey building in Aktobe carried out disinfection of the basement with bleach without warning the local residents. As a result, the building's residents were poisoned by chlorine fumes, exhibiting the same symptoms: watery eyes, a sore throat, and difficulty breathing.
Furthermore, last summer, the FBRK editorial team released a whole series of articles about what is used to poison insects in Kazakhstan. We have repeatedly noted how dangerous the pesticides used in agriculture are, and what negative impact they can have on living organisms, including humans.
