In the Medeu district of Almaty, on Kerey-Zhanibek Khans Street, a mudslide occurred. This caused part of the asphalt to collapse and the sewer network to become blocked. It later emerged that the cause was illegal construction.
According to zakon.kz, the consequences of the mudslide have now been cleared. The city administration reported that the road surface will be repaired once the weather improves.
"An inspection revealed that the mudslide occurred as a result of the hillside being cut away and the construction of buildings in the Muztau microdistrict. It was established that on plot 2768 in the 'Gorny Gigant' production cooperative, the ecosystem had been disrupted during construction: the owner (an individual) unlawfully cut away the slope of the foothills and filled in the ravine. As a result, the natural water flow was blocked, causing a crack to form in the artificial ground during heavy rainfall.", – the city administration's statement notes.
In addition, it was reported that the owner began construction and earthworks without the necessary permits.
It is reported that the Almaty Urban Planning Control Department is initiating an unscheduled inspection of the owner.
Recall that earlier in Almaty, a mudslide resulted in the deaths of four people and damaged two houses. It later emerged that construction, particularly residential buildings, was prohibited at the site of the emergency.
