A resident of Aktobe, after a call from fraudsters, took out loans totalling 7 million tenge.
According to polisia.kz, she received calls from unknown individuals who posed as employees of the National Security Committee and the National Bank.
The woman was told that fraudsters were trying to take out a loan in her name, and that to catch the criminals, she supposedly needed to take out a mirror loan from several banks.
The victim, suspecting nothing, followed all the callers' instructions: during the course of the day, she visited three banks and took out loans totalling 7 million tenge. She then transferred the money she received in 14 separate payments via a terminal to various bank accounts specified by the fraudsters.
Only three days later did the woman realise she had been the victim of a scam and contacted the police.
"We remind you once again that bank employees do not call via the WhatsApp messenger, do not ask you to disclose personal details over the phone or download apps onto your phone, and do not demand that you take out various loans and transfer money to them," said Galina Styrlichuk, head of the cyberpolice department of the Aktobe region police department.
Earlier, it was reported that fraudsters are sending messages to Kazakhstanis posing as ministers, asking to borrow money until payday.
