Metropolitan police have stopped the activities of a group of individuals suspected of car loan fraud. The total damage from their actions amounted to 1.6 billion tenge.
According to the press service of the Astana police department, in addition to arranging car loans for residents of the capital, the suspects were also involved in fraud in other regions. They also illegally sold collateral cars in Russia without the consent of the owners and banks.
"During operational search activities, officers of the metropolitan police identified three citizens involved in the fraud. Their victims were more than 115 citizens. The total amount of damage caused was about 1.6 billion tenge", the statement said.
Earlier, Kazakhstanis were warned about fraudsters who were spreading messages on behalf of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection (MLSP) stating that the department was paying compensation to those affected by floods.
To receive payments, unidentified individuals asked people to click the "More details" button or follow a link. In this way, the criminals tried to gain access to citizens' personal data.
