Test children's knowledge of ecology and at the same time lead them to a book – that was precisely the task with which the organisers gathered schoolchildren in the library. And at the same time they showed what place a library can occupy in environmental education.

WHO WAS GATHERED IN THE LIBRARY AND WHY

The quiz was conducted by Children's Library No. 2 of the akimat of the city of Astana. The event brought together schoolchildren from the capital who are interested in environmental protection. It was organised within the framework of the republican Concept for the Development of Ecological Culture for 2024–2029.

The main goal, as reported by the akimat, was to shape ecological culture in the younger generation. The organisers wanted not only to test the children's knowledge, but also to instil in them a caring attitude towards nature through books.

WHAT WAS ASKED AT THE QUIZ

The main part of the programme was an interactive quiz. The pupils answered questions about nature protection, the correct sorting of household waste and the rational use of natural resources. According to the akimat, the participants demonstrated knowledge and a responsible attitude towards environmental protection.

WHICH BOOKS WERE SHOWN TO THE SCHOOLCHILDREN

For the pupils, the library staff prepared a thematic book exhibition. The display included fiction, popular science and educational literature. The librarians gave an overview of the publications presented and introduced the children to interesting books about ecology.

WHAT ROLE IS ASSIGNED TO THE LIBRARY

According to the assessment of the Astana akimat, the event became an important step in popularising ecological knowledge and developing a culture of reading among young people. It also notes that the library remains one of the key platforms that help to educate a responsible generation.

Let us recall that within the framework of the republican ecological campaign "Taza Qazaqstan", since the beginning of 2026 in Astana, more than 30 thousand offences related to non-compliance with requirements for landscaping and sanitary cleanliness have been identified.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), work is continuously carried out on the territory of the capital to ensure sanitary cleanliness, compliance with landscaping requirements and the maintenance of order in public places.

At the same time, active work is being carried out specifically with the younger generation.

At the beginning of September, the pupils of the Semey City Centre for the Support of Children in need of special social services were told about the rules of behaviour in the forest and safety measures during an ecological excursion to the state forest nature reserve "Semey Ormany".

And on 30 September, class hours on the topic "Prevention of vandalism and graffiti in public places" were held in educational institutions of Astana. Representatives of the prosecutor's office, the police and education discussed with the pupils how to take care of shared spaces and what liability is provided for by law for damage caused to other people's property.
