Astana Qagazy

Schoolchildren in Astana saw the journey of paper waste with their own eyes, from sorting to finished products. At the capital's school-gymnasium No. 80, they believe that such hands-on experience works better than any lessons about ecology.

WHERE THE TRIP TOOK PLACE

The trip was organised at the base of Astana Qagazy (a manufacturing enterprise and recycling collection point in Astana). It was attended by pupils of School-Gymnasium No. 80 named after Saken Seifullin, which is under the authority of the Astana akimat's education department.

WHAT THE SCHOOLCHILDREN SAW

According to the city akimat, the children not only watched how waste paper is sorted and prepared for recycling, but also learned to handle it themselves, and craftsmen showed them how finished products are made from it.

WHY THE SCHOOL ORGANISES SUCH TRIPS

The deputy director for educational work at the gymnasium, Zhanargul Baikenzheyeva, named the formation of an ecological culture in children as the main goal. According to her, caring for nature should become an everyday habit. She believes that practical activities have a stronger effect on schoolchildren than repeated conversations on the same topic.

"Today's excursion was very substantial and informative. The pupils saw with their own eyes how waste paper is sorted and prepared for recycling, and they understood that paper waste can also be useful. The most important thing for us is to form an ecological culture in children and turn caring for nature into an everyday habit. I think such practical activities have a greater influence on a pupil than if we had talked about it a hundred times. Today the children saw it all clearly and returned with good impressions," she said.

Let us recall that on 30 September, educational institutions in Astana held class hours on the topic "Prevention of vandalism and graffiti in public places". Representatives of the prosecutor's office, police and education discussed with pupils how to take care of shared spaces and what liability is provided by law for damage caused to other people's property.
