Volunteers and young people from Atyrau cleaned a natural area where lotus flowers grow and learned about their biological characteristics and importance to the ecosystem. The event took place as part of the nationwide programme «Таза Қазақстан».
CLEAN-UP AND EDUCATION
According to the Regional Communications Service, the environmental event was named «Lotus Clean Day». Participants collected household waste and improved the surrounding area.
In addition to the clean-up, a special guided presentation was held for participants: they were told about the history of the lotus, its biological characteristics and role in the ecosystem, as well as the importance of preserving the plant and caring for the natural area.
The main aim of the event is to foster an environmental culture among young people, increase responsibility for preserving nature and promote the region's natural features.
ENVIRONMENTAL WORK IN NUMBERS
It is reported that since the start of the year, more than 34 environmental events have been organised with the participation of the Youth Resource Centre. Over 1,200 young people took part, and around 400 saplings were planted. Projects including «Таза жағалау», «Экоплоггинг», «День птиц» and «Eco Quiz» were also delivered.
Environmental events in the Atyrau region take place on a regular basis. In June, the Kurmangazy district hosted the «Таза мекен» event, during which participants cleaned the banks of the Kigach River and recreational areas in the village of Teniz - known for its fields of blooming lotus flowers.
In August, Atyrau held an event exchanging plastic bottles for ice cream: for every 10 bottles, participants received one portion - the organisers hoped to collect around 70,000 bottles for subsequent recycling.
