In one of the military units in the city of Pavlodar, a shooting occurred, which resulted in the death of a contract soldier. Another serviceman was wounded and is in a serious condition.
WHAT HAPPENED
According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), a contract soldier fired shots from the weapon assigned to him. As a result, he died at the scene, and another contract soldier was wounded.
The department clarified that criminal cases have been opened regarding the incident. A pre-trial investigation is currently underway, and all circumstances of the event are being established.
The progress of the investigation is being monitored by the Military Investigative Department (MID) of the MIA.
CONDITION OF THE VICTIM
As reported by the Pavlodar Health Department, the wounded soldier was born in 2001. He has been taken to a medical facility and is in intensive care.
The patient's condition is assessed as stable but serious. He is receiving all necessary medical care.
CONTEXT
Previously, incidents involving conscripted servicemen have been recorded in Kazakhstan.
For example, in November 2024, the National Security Committee (NSC) reported the death of a conscript soldier in the East Kazakhstan Region (EKR). According to preliminary information, he committed suicide. As reported by the media, the 19-year-old soldier shot himself twice in the head with an AK-47.
Furthermore, in May 2025, an 18-year-old conscript died in a military unit in Ayagoz, Abai Region. The deceased's relatives claimed he had medical contraindications to service.
In September 2025, a conscript soldier died during planned combat training exercises in the Zhetysu Garrison. The tragedy occurred due to a violation of safety measures when handling weapons. A criminal case was opened in connection with this incident.
