In the military unit of Ayagoz, Abai region, an 18-year-old conscript Salamat Sabitov died. He was called up in March of this year from the North Kazakhstan region. The relatives of the deceased claim that Salamat had medical contraindications for service. According to them, the young man did not even have time to take the oath — he spent only three weeks in the army.
As reported by ORDA, the relatives of the deceased said that the young man had been diagnosed with health problems: a spinal condition and visual impairments. His uncle stated that the conscript was unfit for military service due to his state of health, but despite this, he was sent to serve in a tank unit.
The mother of the deceased said that in April, two military personnel came to their home with threats.
"On 22 April, two military personnel came to our home at ten o'clock at night. They said my son was evading military service and threatened him with criminal prosecution. They said the case would be referred to the military prosecutor. They also told us that otherwise we would have to pay a fine of four million tenge. I don't have that kind of money. We rent a flat. Early the next morning, he was taken straight from there to the army. I was at work at the time. I only managed to see him when he was already on the train. We spoke on the phone occasionally. He didn't complain about anything. Then my son ended up in intensive care. The commander said everything was fine and not to worry. We didn't believe him and sent a relative. The relative said Salamat had fallen into a coma. I came to see him in the morning. His heart stopped that same day," the woman said, fighting back tears.
The Ministry of Defence reported that Salamat Sabitov was admitted to hospital on 16 May with complaints of a high temperature and general malaise. He was examined and treatment was prescribed, but his condition did not improve. The following day, the soldier was transferred to the district hospital. Intensive therapy was carried out there, but on 19 May the conscript died. The cause was hypertoxic (fulminant) bacterial meningitis.
"Despite the efforts of medical specialists and intensive therapy in the intensive care unit, he could not be saved. A criminal case has been opened into the death of the serviceman," the department commented.
It is reported that an internal service inspection has been launched in the conscription commission of the North Kazakhstan region, which sent Sabitov to the army.
Recall that in November last year, the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported the death of a conscript soldier in the East Kazakhstan region. It was reported that he had committed suicide. At that time, police launched a pre-trial investigation under Part 1 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Incitement to suicide").
