Lawyer and blogger Adiletkhan Moldakhan has been placed in custody for 10 days on charges of spreading deliberately false information. The decision was made by the court as part of a pre-trial investigation.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION
According to the Almaty Police Department (DP), a pre-trial investigation is being conducted against the suspect.
"A pre-trial investigation is being carried out into the spread of deliberately false information. The court has selected a measure of restraint in the form of detention for a period of 10 days for the suspect," a statement from the Almaty DP said.
This measure is applied at the pre-trial investigation stage and means a temporary restriction of the suspect's freedom until the circumstances of the case are clarified.
CONTEXT
Adiletkhan Moldakhan is a lawyer and blogger with an audience of more than 1 million followers on Instagram. He actively commented on the high-profile traffic accident on Al-Farabi Avenue in Almaty. In his posts, he put forward his own versions of what happened and also posted videos featuring alleged participants in the events.
Earlier, Adiletkhan Moldakhan's assistants reported his detention, and the police later confirmed the information.
