In Almaty, a man threatened medical workers with a knife during an ambulance crew visit. The suspect has been detained, and a criminal case has been opened into the incident.
WHAT HAPPENED
According to information published on the Instagram account of Almaty Emergency Medical Substation No. 7, the incident occurred during a patient examination. According to the medics, the patient's son was in the apartment, who was allegedly intoxicated and chased the doctors with a knife.
The medical workers took refuge in one of the rooms and contacted the dispatcher. They remained trapped in the room until the police arrived.
Video footage from the scene shows the man trying to get into the ambulance after the medics managed to leave the building, but his actions were stopped by a witness.
POLICE RESPONSE
The Almaty Police Department reported that police officers were called to the scene to ensure the safety of the medical workers.
A criminal case has been opened into the incident under Article 380-3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Threat or use of violence against a medical worker").
The suspect has been detained and placed in a temporary detention facility. An investigation has been launched.
However, according to the medics, the incident was initially classified as "minor hooliganism." The materials do not specify at what stage the reclassification took place.
