The head of the Almaty Carriage Operating Depot has been detained as part of a criminal case. The court has authorised a pre-trial measure in the form of custody.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION
According to the press service of JSC "NC "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" (KTZ), the director of the Almaty Carriage Operating Depot was detained on 9 April 2026 as part of a criminal case.
The company reported that the investigation covers the period of the director's activities for 2024–2025.
The court has authorised a pre-trial measure in the form of remand in custody for the suspect.
WHAT POSITION DID THE COMPANY TAKE
KTZ stated that it adheres to a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and is providing assistance to the investigative authorities.
The company reports that it is providing the necessary information and materials in accordance with current legislation to establish all the circumstances of the case.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE INSPECTION
Simultaneously, an internal inspection has been organised at the Almaty Carriage Operating Depot. It is being conducted by a commission led by the company's compliance service.
As noted by KTZ, the purpose of the inspection is to identify the causes and conditions that may have contributed to the commission of the offence.
"Until the completion of the investigative measures and the adoption of a procedural decision by the competent authorities, the company refrains from further comment," the statement reads.
CONTEXT
Earlier, the publication Polites News reported, citing its own sources, that the depot director had been detained on suspicion of receiving a particularly large bribe — 110 million tenge.
However, no official confirmation of the information regarding the amount of the bribe has been received so far.
