The department of the Financial Monitoring Agency (AFM) in the East Kazakhstan region is investigating a case of embezzlement of budget funds allocated for the maintenance of Ust-Kamenogorsk's city roads. Among the suspects are the former director of the State Public Enterprise on the Right of Economic Management "Taza Oskemen", his deputy, and an individual entrepreneur.

According to the agency's press service, in 2022–2023, the individuals involved in the case used their official positions to illegally transfer money to affiliated companies, bypassing state procurement procedures.

According to the investigation, the scheme involved drawing up fictitious documents for the supply of bitumen and sand, the rental of special equipment for water pumping, and the purchase of materials for 23 bus shelters that had already been installed.

The funds were then cashed out through an individual entrepreneur and distributed among the scheme's participants. The amount of damage exceeded 120 million tenge.

As reported, the suspects used these funds to acquire property: an apartment in an upscale residential complex in Ust-Kamenogorsk, a BMW X6 M and a Subaru Forester, as well as land plots.

By court order, the assets were seized. A pre-trial detention measure of two months' custody was selected for the former director of the enterprise.
