The National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NSC) confirmed that a pre-trial investigation is being conducted following reports of the detention of the director of the Almaty branch of JSC "KazTemirTrans", Akylbek Bazenov. The department stated that the details of the case are not subject to disclosure in accordance with criminal procedure legislation.
WHAT THE NSC REPORTED
The NSC commented on the information regarding the possible detention of the head of the company's Almaty branch.
In response to an official request from the editorial board of MIA "Kazinform", it was reported that a pre-trial investigation is being conducted regarding this matter, and no other information is subject to disclosure in accordance with Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
THE COMPANY'S POSITION
The press service of JSC "KazTemirTrans" previously reported that law enforcement agencies are carrying out investigative measures. The company, according to its own statement, is cooperating and providing the necessary information and documents as part of the investigation.
The company also stated that the information circulating about the possible receipt of a large bribe for assistance in winning state procurement contracts for facility security is doubtful.
According to the company:
- the total budget for security services amounts to about 200 million tenge;
- for the Almaty branch, more than 9 million tenge has been allocated this year for the protection of production bases.
JSC "KazTemirTrans" emphasised that this amount is significantly less than that which appears in the circulating information about the alleged bribe. The remaining circumstances will be established during the investigation.
It will be recalled that earlier, the media reported that the director of the Almaty branch of JSC "KazTemirTrans", Akylbek Bazenov, was allegedly detained while receiving a bribe of a large amount.
