Since the beginning of the year, seven accidents have occurred at oil and gas facilities in Kazakhstan. Compared to the same period in 2025, their number has increased by 40%.

WHAT IS KNOWN

According to Kengirbai Yesseyev, Deputy Chairman of the Industrial Safety Committee of the Ministry for Emergency Situations (MES), from January to March, seven accidents occurred at oil and gas industry facilities in the country, reports Informburo.kz.

Additionally, 33 incidents were recorded in the oil and gas, petrochemical and chemical industries.

“In terms of accidents, we are seeing a 40% increase compared to last year. At the same time, the number of casualties is decreasing. We believe this is a direct consequence of changes made to certain legislative acts concerning industrial safety and reducing risks to the life and health of workers,” Yesseyev said at a briefing.

WHAT THE INSPECTIONS SHOWED

He also noted that since the beginning of the year, state bodies have carried out 226 inspections, during which they identified more than 5,000 violations of industrial safety requirements.

As a result of the inspections, the operations of two entities and 312 high-risk facilities were suspended. A total of 225 fines were also imposed on enterprises.

WHAT THIS MEANS

The increase in the number of accidents alongside a decrease in the number of casualties may indicate tighter control and more accurate recording of incidents. However, the materials do not specify exactly what the increase in accidents is linked to — whether it is the technical condition of the facilities or other factors.
