After two plane crashes near Astana in 2025, authorities conducted unscheduled inspections of aircraft. The inspections revealed 58 violations, and the operation of 11 aircraft was suspended.
WHAT HAPPENED
According to JSC «Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan», between 25 August and 10 October 2025, specialists carried out 63 unscheduled inspections of aircraft. The inspections were organised after two crashes that occurred near Astana, reports Centralmedia24.kz.
The organisation stated that the inspections revealed 58 violations of regulatory legal acts in the field of civil aviation. Following this, the operation of 11 aircraft was temporarily suspended until the violations were rectified.
WHAT MEASURES WERE TAKEN AGAINST COMPANIES
Materials concerning five operators were sent to the Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Transport to consider bringing them to administrative responsibility.
In addition, separate unscheduled inspections were carried out of operators of light and ultra-light aircraft, as well as aviation training centres. Restrictive measures were applied to entities where non-compliance with established requirements was identified, in order to eliminate violations and prevent recurrence.
WILL SAFETY RULES BE CHANGED
JSC «Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan» reported that the Ministry of Transport does not plan to tighten requirements for the technical condition of aircraft and pilot training. According to the agency, the current regulatory framework complies with international standards and recommended practices of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
CONTEXT
The first crash occurred on 22 June 2025 near the Zholaman airfield outside Astana. Two people died when the light aircraft fell.
The second disaster occurred on 17 August 2025 during a general aviation flight. There were a pilot and a passenger on board. Both died at the scene.
The aircraft belonged to different private companies. Their operation was suspended pending the start of an investigation.
The situation shows that after aviation incidents, regulators step up oversight of compliance with safety requirements. However, the materials do not specify whether the identified violations are linked to the causes of the crashes.
