Soil erosion around the emergency bridge over the Turghen river was recorded in the Enbekshikazakh district of the Almaty region after a rise in water levels. According to local authorities, traffic on the bridge was restricted as early as 2024, and its replacement has already been planned.
WHAT HAPPENED
According to the Telegram channel "LETTERS TO THE PRESIDENT", in the Enbekshikazakh district of the Almaty region, a disused bridge on the highway along the Big Almaty Canal (BAC) was washed out.
The situation was commented on by the Akimat of the Almaty region, reports Zakon.kz.
The authorities clarified that this concerns the bridge over the Turghen river at the 54th km of the KV-49 highway. On 1 July 2026, due to heavy rainfall, the water level in the river rose, resulting in recorded soil erosion around the emergency bridge structure.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE BRIDGE
According to information from the Akimat of the Almaty region, the bridge over the Turghen river was declared unsafe back in 2024. Traffic on it was subsequently restricted.
It is noted that design and estimate documentation has been developed for the replacement of the emergency bridge, a positive conclusion from the state expert review has been received, and funding has been allocated.
WHEN WORK WILL BEGIN
A contractor organisation has been identified following state procurement. On 10 July 2026, the contractor will commence construction and installation work. The situation is under the control of the Akimat.
