Doctors have reported on the condition of those injured following the incident at the Kazzinc LLP enterprise in Ust-Kamenogorsk. Five people sought medical assistance, two of whom have been hospitalised.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE INJURED
According to Murat Nurbikenov, Deputy Chief Physician of the East Kazakhstan Regional Specialised Medical Centre, the first patients arrived at the emergency department at 8:45.
In total, four men and one woman sought medical assistance. All of the injured received the necessary care and underwent examinations, including computed tomography.
WHO HAS BEEN HOSPITALISED
Three of the injured sustained superficial bruises and abrasions. After examination, they were sent home.
Two patients remain in hospital.
A man born in 1980 is in a critically severe condition. He has burns covering more than 90% of his body surface, burns to his upper respiratory tract and cornea, as well as post-traumatic shock. He has been placed in intensive care.
A man born in 1974 has been hospitalised with a compression fracture of the lumbar spine and fractures of the spinal processes. He is in the traumatology department.
RESPONSE MEASURES
At a meeting of the operational headquarters, Nurymbet Saktaganov, Akim of the East Kazakhstan Region (EKR), reported that a special commission would be formed by the Department of the State Labour Inspection Committee for the EKR. Additionally, the EKR Department of Ecology will ensure continuous air quality monitoring during the period of accident aftermath response.
According to the akim, psychological and financial assistance will be provided to the families of the deceased and the injured. Furthermore, an assessment of the possibility of the enterprise's further operation and strengthening of control over compliance with safety regulations is planned.
CONTEXT
Earlier, on the territory of the Kazzinc LLP lead plant, in the melting section of the electrolysis workshop, an explosion of a dust collection device occurred, followed by a fire and the collapse of structures.
According to preliminary information, seven people were injured, two of whom died, and another five were hospitalised. Rescuers worked at the scene, an operational headquarters was set up, and dozens of personnel and pieces of equipment were deployed.
