In Astana, police officers uncovered an illegal meat workshop that was operating in conditions of gross violations of sanitary standards. The production was set up in a private residential area and, according to law enforcement agencies, was engaged in the processing and sale of meat without the necessary documents and veterinary control.

HOW THE UNDERGROUND WORKSHOP WAS DISCOVERED

According to Polisia.kz, the illegal production was uncovered during an operational and preventive operation called 'Skotokrad' (Cattle Rustler), which is taking place in the capital from 3 to 5 March 2026.

Police established that the underground workshop was located in a private residential area on Aimauytov Street. The premises were disguised and operated without official permits. According to police data, the building was used for the processing, storage, and preparation of meat products for sale without mandatory veterinary and sanitary control.

WHAT WAS FOUND DURING THE INSPECTION OF THE PREMISES

During the inspection, police officers seized meat, waste, and equipment for its processing.

The following items were found in the premises:

  • more than 4 horse carcasses
  • 13 cattle carcasses
  • meat waste
  • equipment for cutting and processing meat

As reported by law enforcement agencies, the products produced could have been sold at markets in the capital.

WHO HAS BEEN DETAINED IN CONNECTION WITH THE CASE

Two men, aged 64 and 55, have been detained on suspicion of organising the illegal production.

Police reported that an investigation is being conducted into this matter. A decision on further procedural measures will be made in accordance with current legislation.

Law enforcement agencies reminded that purchasing meat products from unauthorised locations and from unknown sellers may pose a threat to health.
