The akimat of the Ulytau region reported the disposal of more than 3,000 saigas, after footage of dead animals at the Kengir Reservoir was widely shared online.

According to ORDA, 2,342 saigas were buried in the city of Karazhal, and more than 660 within the Zhezkazgan area.

The akimat explained these measures as clearing the area of saiga carcasses that had died "as a result of winter mortality and attacks by stray dogs".

It has become known that the dead animals were transported to livestock burial sites by employees of the Emergency Situations Department, the Forestry and Wildlife Inspectorate, the Republican State Enterprise "Okhotzooprom", as well as representatives of local akimats. It is noted that the collection of remains is ongoing.

Earlier, eyewitnesses reported the discovery of thousands of dead steppe antelopes near the Kengir Reservoir.

It is worth recalling that at the beginning of March, dozens of saiga carcasses were discovered in the Karaganda and Ulytau regions, causing serious concern among animal rights activists.

Later, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the 4th meeting of the National Kurultai in Burabay instructed the government to study the issue of the sharp increase in the saiga population.
