The Anti-Corruption Service has completed an investigation into the theft of 862 million tenge during the modernisation of a uranium processing plant at the Karatau mine in the Turkistan region.
According to the press service of the agency, under suspicion are the former management of Karatau LLP (a subsidiary of Kazatomprom NAC JSC), the director of the contractor Iri building LLP, as well as representatives of the design and technical supervision.
"The contractor is suspected of embezzling 862 million tenge in 2019-2021, allocated for construction and installation work as part of the project to modernise the uranium processing plant at the Karatau mine in the Sozak district of the Turkistan region", the statement reads.
At the same time, it emerged that the theft was committed with the complicity of representatives of the design and technical supervision, and also as a result of negligence by the management of Karatau LLP. The criminal case has been sent to court.
It will be recalled that in 2022, the Anti-Corruption Service reported that the owner of Iri building LLP is a relative of Kairat Satybaldy – one B. Baiseitov. Incidentally, he is still at large.
At the time, the investigation established that Baiseitov, hiding behind his family ties to Satybaldy, lobbied for the activities of the controlled company Iri building LLP.
The Anti-Corruption Service believes that Baiseitov, while running the company, distributed the incoming funds for the construction of the facility, while some equipment was not delivered, and the funds intended for this purpose were illegally channelled out and stolen.
