In the theft of 56 million, sports officials from Almaty are suspected

Former employees of the Almaty sports department and its subordinate organisation are suspected of embezzling budget funds. 

According to the press service of Anti-Cor, a pre-trial investigation into the former employees of the sports department and the Olympic Reserve Training Centre is being conducted on charges of misappropriation and embezzlement of budget funds on an especially large scale. 

They are suspected of embezzling more than 56 million tenge by calculating and paying wages to individuals who did not actually work for the department.

"The investigation is ongoing. In accordance with Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code, other information is not subject to disclosure in the interests of the investigation," the statement said.

Recall that earlier it was reported that Kazakhstan has been recognised as one of the most corrupt countries in terms of the number of suspicious sports matches and ranks 4th in the anti-rating of the international organisation Sportradar.
