A court in Karaganda has found a local college student guilty of the illegal trafficking and smuggling of drugs and sentenced him to 15 years' imprisonment. The criminal investigation was conducted by the Department of the Financial Monitoring Agency for the Karaganda Region, under the coordination of the Chief Transport Prosecutor's Office.

COURIER-DRUG DEALER

The student found a job advertisement for a courier-drug dealer on one of the Telegram channels. His duties included receiving drugs, storing them, packaging them, and concealing them in caches across Karaganda. It is noted that he made approximately 30 such drops each day.

SMUGGLING

In addition, the student organised the international postal shipment of drugs from Thailand. The parcel was addressed to a minor who acted as a drop, whom he had found via Telegram for a reward of 400,000 tenge. The teenager was detained upon receiving the order.

AMOUNT OF DRUGS SEIZED

The parcel from Thailand contained 909 grams of cannabis extract. A further 80 grams of drugs were found at the student's home. In his mobile phone, the coordinates of recent caches were discovered, where 3.34 grams of cannabis extract were hidden.

The sentence has not yet come into force.
