Two residents of Astana have been sentenced for distributing drugs on an exceptionally large scale.
According to the press service of the Anti-Corruption Agency, the defendants supplied drugs and psychotropic substances from the US under the guise of postal parcels.
"During a search using a sniffer dog at a temporary storage warehouse in the customs control zone, a narcotic substance 'hashish' with a total weight of about 1 kg was discovered and seized", the statement said.
At the same time, during the pre-trial investigation, law enforcement officers identified another parcel at one of the city branches of Kazpost JSC addressed to the same recipients. It contained a potent psychotropic substance – tetrahydrocannabinol and its isomers with a total weight of more than 7 grammes.
Furthermore, during a search of one of the defendants' apartments, police found narcotic drugs, packaging materials and scales.
The defendants were found guilty and sentenced to 8 and 18 years in prison to be served in a medium-security colony.
It is noted that since the beginning of the year, the AFM has registered 116 criminal cases related to drug trafficking and illegal drug trafficking. Law enforcement officers seized 57.3 kg of narcotic drugs.
In addition, they seized 1.7 kg of psychotropic substances, 206,000 units of anabolic steroids and 1,680 units of 'Tropicamide' eye drops.
Recall that in March alone, police identified 22 crimes related to the trafficking of drugs and toxic substances. 230 people were brought to administrative responsibility, including 48 medical workers. For violations of storage conditions, 43 kg of narcotic and psychotropic substances, over 9,000 tablets and about 15,000 ampoules of medical preparations were seized.
