In the Almaty region, a suspect has been convicted of drug smuggling on an exceptionally large scale.
According to the press service of the AFM, a parcel containing a narcotic substance - cannabis extract (hashish oil) weighing approximately 800 grams - arrived at the branch of KazPost JSC in the Ili district.
Law enforcement officers established that the suspect ordered the drugs from Thailand via Telegram.
"The opening of the parcel confirmed the presence of narcotic substances, hidden in eight jars with a characteristic smell, disguised as cosmetic products", the statement said.
The court found the man guilty and sentenced him to 16 years' imprisonment.
It is noted that since the beginning of this year, the AFM has registered 135 criminal cases related to drug smuggling and illegal drug trafficking.
Officers from the agency seized 77.1 kg of narcotic drugs, 3.2 kg of psychotropic substances, 206,000 units of anabolic steroids, and approximately 1,700 'Tropicamide' eye drops.
