The scheme of illegal metal export abroad was uncovered in Astana.

Transport prosecutors have thwarted attempts to illegally export ferrous and non-ferrous metal scrap to the Netherlands and Germany. The violations were recorded at the Customs Clearance Centre (CCC) in Astana.

According to the press service of the Main Transport Prosecutor's Office, the products were exported using a false HS (Harmonised System) code — instead of scrap, the documents listed used pipes.

"This fact has been confirmed by the conclusions of customs experts. In accordance with the order of the Minister of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 18 October 2023 No. 34, the export of such products is prohibited," the statement said.

It became known that two companies were involved in the scheme. The prosecutor's office initiated administrative proceedings against them for the illegal movement of goods across the customs border.

The court of first instance found the representatives of the companies guilty and imposed fines of 20 MRP (78,640 tenge) each.
