The Specialised Inter-District Court for Administrative Offences in Pavlodar heard a case against the owner of the «Bellagio» restaurant, after whose celebratory event 34 people sought medical treatment.

According to the press service of the Pavlodar courts, the city’s sanitary and epidemiological control department received a report from the emergency medical service regarding cases of acute bacterial intestinal infection (BII) among citizens who attended an event at the restaurant on 7 June this year.

Experts launched an epidemiological investigation and took laboratory samples. The inspection established that the restaurant was operating without the necessary permits.

Furthermore, two days after the incident, despite being served a notice ordering the cessation of its activities, the restaurant continued to operate. As a result, after another banquet, a further 18 people were admitted to hospital with a diagnosis of BII.

The restaurant owner admitted full guilt, explaining that he had committed the violation for the first time due to negligence, and asked the court to consider this as a mitigating circumstance.

Ultimately, the court found him guilty and imposed an administrative penalty in the form of a fine of 275,240 tenge, along with suspending the restaurant’s operations for a period of one month.

It will be recalled that the incident occurred on 7 June following a celebratory «қыз ұзату» event. At that time, 34 people were hospitalised, including a child and a pregnant woman. All those affected experienced high fever, vomiting and diarrhoea.
