In Semey, a 66-year-old man set fire to two cars belonging to local police officers. The incident took place in the 'Yunost' microdistrict.

WHAT HAPPENED
A video of burning cars parked near the local police station was shared on social media. Witnesses suggested the arson may have been deliberate.
POLICE COMMENT
According to the Department of Police of the Abai Region, on 25 January 2026, during a patrol of their administrative area, local police officers identified a previously convicted 66-year-old local resident who was in a state of alcohol intoxication. It is reported that the man was disturbing public order and displaying aggressive, erratic behaviour.
He was taken to the local police station, where a protocol was drawn up in accordance with the law for appearing in a public place while intoxicated. After the paperwork was completed, the man was handed over to his relatives and released.
ACTIONS AFTER THE ARREST
Disagreeing with the lawful actions of the police, the man poured petrol on and set fire to two police patrol cars parked near the local police station.
CONSEQUENCES
