Former deputy of the Mazhilis Bakytzhan Bazarbek has been linked to a road traffic accident in the Zhambyl Region, in which a 36-year-old man sustained serious injuries and was hospitalised in intensive care.
WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE ACCIDENT
According to Hronika.kz, at around 20:15, a Toyota Camry travelling from Almaty towards Taraz struck a cow, after which it veered onto the roadside and came to a stop.
To render assistance, the driver of a passing vehicle, a Nissan Maxima, a citizen identified as N. K., born in 1989, stopped. Approximately 15 minutes later, the man, who was reportedly on the carriageway, was struck by another vehicle — a Toyota RAV4, also travelling towards Taraz.
According to the publication, Bakytzhan Bazarbek was behind the wheel of the RAV4. However, the police officially identify the driver only as citizen B.
CONDITION OF THE VICTIM
The injured man, N. K., was taken to the central hospital of Ryskulov District and admitted to the intensive care unit.
It has been reported that the man was diagnosed with fractures to the ribs, forearm and shin, a closed craniocerebral injury and a cerebral contusion. The victim is a 36-year-old resident of the administrative centre of Ryskulov District, who is married and raising three minor children.
WHAT THE POLICE HAVE SAID
The press service of the Police Department of Zhambyl Region reported that a criminal case has been opened in connection with the accident in Ryskulov District.
According to preliminary police information, the driver of the Toyota, citizen B., struck a man who was on the carriageway. The victim was hospitalised in the intensive care unit of the central district hospital.
The police also reported that the victim's condition is assessed as serious. Investigative actions are ongoing.
WHAT OFFENCES ARE BEING ESTABLISHED
According to the publication, an investigation has been initiated under Part 2 of Article 345 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Violation of road traffic rules or operation of vehicles by persons driving vehicles, resulting through negligence in the infliction of serious harm to a person's health").
It has also been reported that an alcohol intoxication test was carried out after the accident. According to a source, Bakytzhan Bazarbek was sober.
WHO IS BAKYTZHAN BAZARBEK
Bakytzhan Bazarbek is a former deputy of the Mazhilis and member of the AMANAT party. After finishing his work in the Mazhilis, Bakytzhan Bazarbek was not included in the candidate lists for the Kurultai elections. His name is absent from the published party candidate lists.
During his time in Parliament, the former deputy repeatedly voiced criticism of the government and raised issues in the social sphere, communal infrastructure, and land and construction disputes.
In December 2025, Bazarbek stated that many problems had been accumulating for years, and that his parliamentary inquiries had served as grounds for inspections, criminal cases and lawsuits. He also spoke of the need to secure the implementation of parliamentary requests.
