The police chief of Zhambyl region has been dismissed amid high-profile arrests.

The head of the police department in the Zhambyl region, Colonel Bakytzhan Malybaev, has been dismissed.

According to ORDA, his departure was the result of a combination of factors: a worsening crime situation in the region, complaints about investigative work, a rise in road traffic accidents and serious crimes. It is reported that the final decision was coordinated with the Presidential Administration.

Formally, Malybaev submitted his resignation report back in August, but in reality he had not been at work for about a week.

Journalists claim that the high-profile arrests within the department dealt an additional blow to his position. At the end of August, the deputy head of the police department, Zhaidarbek Kuttybaev, was arrested on fraud charges, as was the head of the Talas district police, Yerken Abaev, who had previously been on the wanted list. At the same time, Malybaev voiced his support for his deputy, which, according to a source, seriously damaged his reputation.

It is noted that in May, Malybaev had hoped to receive the rank of General, but was refused. Soon after, a video appeared online showing him at an informal event in the company of high-ranking colleagues, consuming alcohol.

According to available information, among the candidates for the now vacant post is Arman Sadanov, who currently heads the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ own security department. It is noted that his figure is already familiar to Zhambyl police officers: last year he visited the region for the funeral of a deceased officer and made public promises about a posthumous award, but never fulfilled them.

Against the backdrop of a string of arrests and resignations, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Yerzhan Sadenov, made a strong statement, calling officers caught engaging in unlawful acts 'traitors'.
