Another case of an attack on a medical worker has been recorded at the Kostanay Regional Hospital. The incident occurred on 7 August in the institution's emergency department.
According to the Telegram channel "HALYQSTAN", a woman approached the receptionist — a student from Almaty Medical University, Ayana Amenova, who was undertaking her summer placement at the hospital — and struck her a strong blow to the forearm with her hand.
It is reported that before this, the attacker shouted accusations at the medical staff, claiming that "because of them, her mother had died".
Witnesses state that at the time of the attack, security guards and a police officer on duty in the emergency department were nearby, no more than three metres from the reception desk.
Ayana Amenova said that a few days earlier, a female patient had come to the hospital complaining of a rapid heartbeat and shortness of breath. According to the patient's daughter, the woman was diagnosed with a "neurosis", and she insisted on being seen by a neurologist.
"After the examination, she was sent home for outpatient treatment," Amenova explained.
It emerged that after the incident, a police patrol was called to the emergency department by medical workers. The attacker was questioned.
The press service of the Kostanay Regional Police has not yet commented on the circumstances of the incident. Law enforcement officers are interviewing those involved in the conflict and witnesses, as well as preparing the necessary procedural documents.
For context, earlier at the Ministry of Health, with the participation of the head of the department, Akmaral Alnazarova, and the Chairman of the Board of JSC "Kazakhtelecom", Bagdat Musin, digital solutions using artificial intelligence were discussed.
The projects concerned improving the safety of medical personnel, expanding access to medical care for the rural population, and reducing the workload on doctors.
One of these innovations is the introduction of smart video badges to improve the safety of healthcare workers. It has been reported that five ambulance teams in Astana are already using the technology in a pilot mode, and a launch in Almaty is planned soon. The initiative was supported by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Later, around-the-clock police posts were set up in six hospitals in Astana to protect medical workers.
