The General Prosecutor's Office and the Anti-Corruption Service of Pavlodar Region have been given vehicles that were seized from the convicted Yevgeniy Yevkovich, who was involved in the case of the former head of the regional police department, Nurlan Masimov.
According to Tengrinews.kz, the Pavlodar Department of State Property and Privatisation reported that both vehicles were given to the agencies free of charge.
"The Kia Sorento has been transferred to the balance sheet of the Logistics Management Department under the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Toyota RAV4 has been given for use to the Department of the Anti-Corruption Service for Pavlodar Region," commented the head of the territorial department, Yerkin Smagulov.
It is reported that the sale of these vehicles became known in the spring of this year. The black 2021 Kia Sorento crossover was valued at 18.5 million tenge, and the 2021 Toyota RAV4 at 16.7 million tenge.
"It became known that the crossovers belonged to businessman Yevgeniy Yevkovich, who was convicted in the case of Nurlan Masimov for large-scale embezzlement of property. The investigation established that the businessman supplied the Pavlodar police with special equipment, including bulletproof vests, helmets and rubber batons, at inflated prices," the statement says.
Recall that in August 2023, Nurlan Masimov, his deputy Damir Sirazidimov and businessman Yevgeniy Yevkovich were sentenced to 10, 8 and 7 years, respectively. In addition, the defendants were ordered to compensate the Pavlodar Regional Police Department 421.6 million tenge.
They were accused of accepting a large bribe, and of appropriating or embezzling entrusted property on an especially large scale. Nurlan Masimov was additionally charged with intentional illegal crossing of the state border.
At the same time, the court seized the vehicles of businessman Yevgeniy Yevkovich. The businessman himself paid the material damages. In December of last year, the appeal court reduced his prison sentence from 7 to 5 years, but upheld the seizure of the confiscated vehicles. They were then transferred to the Pavlodar Department of State Property and Privatisation.
