The Prosecutor's Office of Atyrau Region has identified that the operator of the North Caspian Project, North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC), exceeded the permissible limits for flaring raw gas without an environmental permit.

According to the press service of the department, the subsoil user was brought to administrative responsibility under Article 356 of the Administrative Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Violation of rules for conducting subsoil use operations"). As a result, environmental damage totalling 3.6 billion tenge was fully recovered to the state budget.

Recall that in January, a court in Astana issued a ruling to recover more than 3.5 billion tenge from NCOC for environmental violations at the Kashagan field.

In April, it was reported that the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan imposed fines on oil-producing companies Tengizchevroil, NCOC, Caspian Oil and Mangistaumunaigaz totalling more than 61.1 billion tenge in 2022–2024.
