Military officials demand the preservation of existing housing payment conditions

Service members have published a petition on the site GosRating.com asking to preserve the terms of housing payments and to hold an open discussion with the Ministry of Defence and the public.

The authors of the petition demand:

  • Preserve the current terms of housing payments without worsening them.
  • Prevent changes from being applied retrospectively if they affect those already serving.
  • Take into account the opinions of service members when developing any reforms.
  • Hold an open discussion involving representatives of the Ministry of Defence, service members, and the public.

"We are convinced that the state must fulfil its obligations to those who risk their lives daily for the safety of citizens," the statement reads.

At the time of publication, 187 people had supported the petition, while 33 had opposed it.

Incidentally, in June, senators proposed amendments to the law, providing for some changes in the provision of housing payments to employees of state bodies.

It was noted that currently, service members and employees of special state bodies receive one-off housing payments upon dismissal. If the amendments come into force, the amount of these payments will only cover the remaining mortgage debt.
