Prosecutors in the Turkestan region have completed 7 pre-trial investigations into 123 employees in the region's education sector.

According to the department's press service, 2 criminal cases against employees of the education departments in Sauran and Suzak districts have been sent to court. Participants in the criminal proceedings are currently reviewing the materials in the other 5 cases.

During the investigation, 1.5 billion tenge was recovered from the suspects and credited to state revenue, and property obtained through criminal means was seized to the value of 2.9 billion tenge.

As a reminder, in July, the Anti-Corruption Agency in the Turkestan region suppressed the activities of an organised criminal group involved in corruption within the education sector. The criminal group, which consists of 12 members, is suspected of embezzling 3.7 billion tenge in budget funds.

Later, in the Zhetysu region, a sentence was passed against the head of the Taldykorgan education department, Zh. Dzholdykhanov. He was found guilty of receiving a bribe of 280 million tenge from the department's chief accountant. Consequently, Dzholdykhanov was sentenced to 11 years in prison with a lifelong ban from holding positions in the civil service.

In February, the Anti-Corruption Agency in the Zhetysu region completed an investigation into officials from the Taldykorgan education department. They were accused of creating an organised criminal group to embezzle budget funds. The criminal actions caused damage to the state amounting to 4.3 billion tenge. As a result, the organiser of the criminal group was sentenced to 15 years in prison, and its members received prison terms ranging from 9 to 13 years.
