Police in Pavlodar have detained two local residents on suspicion of drug trafficking. During searches, law enforcement officers seized around 60 kg of dried marijuana, as well as money, phones and bank cards.

WHO WAS DETAINED

According to Polisia.kz, operatives from the organised crime unit, coordinated by the prosecutor's office, halted drug trafficking on an especially large scale.

Two city residents were detained in Pavlodar. They are suspected of drug trafficking.

WHAT WAS FOUND DURING THE SEARCHES

According to the head of the organised crime unit of the Pavlodar regional police department, Gabit Kabdrakhmanov, during searches of those detained, dried marijuana with a total weight of around 60 kg was found and seized.

Law enforcement officers also seized money, phones, bank cards and various implements.

WHAT DECISION DID THE COURT MAKE

The suspects have been remanded in custody by court order. Police are also checking their possible involvement in similar offences.

The investigation is ongoing. Police reminded the public that they are clamping down on drug trafficking in accordance with current legislation.

CONTEXT

Previously, Kazakhstan's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) proposed moving certain offences related to the acquisition, possession and transportation of drugs without intent to sell from the criminal to the administrative code.

However, criminal liability for the manufacture, processing, acquisition, possession and transportation of drugs without intent to sell in large and especially large quantities will be retained.
