Mass mortality of 126 thousand chickens from pasteurellosis recorded at a poultry farm in WKO

At the end of December 2024, there was a mass death of chickens at the poultry farm LLP «Agrofirm AKAS» in the Baikonyz rural district of the Bayterek region, West Kazakhstan Oblast. 

As reported by the publication «My City» citing the regional veterinary department, tests showed that 126,000 birds died from pasteurellosis. Restrictive measures have been in place at the enterprise since 31 December.

«On the territory of the poultry farm LLP «Agrofirm AKAS», the eggs were disposed of (burned) along with the carcasses of the dead birds. Mechanical cleaning and disinfection were carried out in the poultry houses», the statement reads.

It is noted that pasteurellosis most often affects young geese, ducks and chickens.

For reference: pasteurellosis is an acute infectious disease of domestic and wild animals, dangerous to humans. Infection occurs through airborne droplets, through contact with sick animals, through contaminated food or water, as well as through bites from infected animals.
