In the Zhambyl region, a poacher was sentenced for shooting a goitered gazelle listed in the Red Book. According to ORDA, in January the defendant was looking for horses in the area of Sarysu. Through binoculars, he spotted the gazelle and shot the animal. This caused major damage to the state amounting to 4,430,400 tenge. The defendant pleaded fully guilty.
"According to the court verdict, he was found guilty of a combination of crimes under paragraphs 2 and 4 of part 4 of Article 337 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and was sentenced to 3 years' probation, with deprivation of the right to engage in hunting activities for 7 years and the establishment of supervision over his behaviour by the probation service at his place of residence," the statement said.
The man's detention was reported in January this year. At the time, it was stated that the poacher was a 31-year-old shepherd. He claimed to have gone on the illegal hunt to provide food for his family. Law enforcement officers found an IZH brand 12-gauge hunting rifle with a filed-off serial number in his possession.
