A man has been convicted of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm following a dispute over a debt of 1500 tenge. During the fight, the victim suffered fractures to four ribs. The court sentenced him to 3 years' imprisonment, suspended.

HOW THE CONFLICT DEVELOPED

In August 2025, a resident of the Turar Ryskulov district met the victim, who was intoxicated, and demanded repayment of a debt of 1500 tenge. A fight broke out between them: the man struck several blows, resulting in the victim sustaining four broken ribs. By court decision, the man's actions were classified under Part 1 of Article 106 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (‘Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm’).

POSITIONS OF THE PARTIES

The prosecutor requested a sentence of 3 years' imprisonment. The defendant pleaded guilty and asked for leniency. The victim forgave the defendant and asked the court not to imprison him.

COURT DECISION

The court of the Turar Ryskulov district found the man guilty under Part 1 of Article 106 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (‘Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm’), which carries a penalty of 3 to 8 years' imprisonment. Taking into account the guilty plea and the defendant's positive references, the minimum term was imposed — 3 years' imprisonment, with the application of Article 63 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (‘Suspended sentence’).

The verdict has entered into legal force.
