A delegation from Kazakhstan, led by the First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Police Major General Bauyrzhan Alenov, took part in the signing ceremony of the United Nations (UN) Convention against cybercrime, which took place in Hanoi (Vietnam).

According to Polisia.kz, Kazakhstan actively participated in the development of the draft: representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs submitted proposals aimed at creating effective mechanisms for cooperation between countries in the investigation of cybercrimes.

According to the UN, the document became the world's first international convention aimed at preventing and investigating cybercrimes, as well as strengthening international cooperation in the field of digital security.

The Convention opened for signature on 25 October — on the very first day, 65 states joined it.

Joining the Convention will allow Kazakhstan to:

  • quickly exchange electronic evidence with other countries;

  • cooperate more effectively in the investigation of cross-border cybercrimes;

  • better protect citizens from online fraud, cyber-attacks and other threats in the digital space.

It became known that the Convention was adopted by the UN General Assembly in December 2024. It will enter into force 90 days after ratification by at least 40 member states
