The President held a meeting of the Security Council on cyber defence issues.

Under the chairmanship of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, a meeting of the Security Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held, dedicated to issues of ensuring cybersecurity and protecting the digital environment for citizens.

According to the press service of Akorda, the President recalled that in his recent State of the Nation Address he set the task of turning Kazakhstan into a full-fledged digital nation.

The meeting participants considered a wide range of issues:

  • modern cyber threats and methods of countering them;
  • protection of critically important information infrastructure;
  • development of the domestic cybersecurity industry;
  • improvement of the personnel training system.

Reports were delivered by the Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry Zhaslan Madiyev and the Chairman of the National Security Committee Yermek Sagimbayev.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasised the particular importance of combating cybercrime. According to him, state bodies investigating such crimes must strengthen their competencies and coordination of actions.

Special attention was paid to the protection of citizens' personal data and the need to tighten liability for its leakage. The Head of State pointed out the necessity of strengthening preventive and educational work among the population to foster a culture of safe behaviour in cyberspace.

Following the meeting, the President instructed that measures be taken aimed at reducing strategic risks and solving systemic problems in the field of cyber defence.
