In Taraz, the head of the city construction department, Nurbek Kaldybayev, and a representative of contracting organisations, Yerbolatuly O, have been convicted.
According to the press service of the Anti-Corruption Agency, Yerbolatuly was found guilty of embezzling budget funds allocated for the construction of apartment buildings for socially vulnerable segments of the population.
Kaldybayev was convicted for transferring this money and signing fictitious work completion certificates in the interests of the contractors.
"As a result of their criminal activities, the state suffered damages amounting to more than 519 million tenge," the statement said.
Ultimately, the court sentenced Kaldybayev to 4 years in prison and Yerbolatuly to 6 years in prison.
Additionally, the former official was banned for life from holding positions in the civil service and in quasi-public sector entities. Yerbolatuly was banned from holding positions related to the management of finances in state, private organisations, and quasi-public sector entities for a period of 10 years.
Earlier, it was reported that in Uralsk, the head of the city department of architecture and urban planning, the chief specialist of the department, and the deputy director of Alikhanstroyproject LLP were convicted for corruption offences.
