In the West Kazakhstan Region, the area of irrigated land has increased to 12,441 hectares. Last year, this figure was 10,160 hectares. This was announced by the deputy akim of the region, Tilepbergen Kaiupov, at the extraordinary 21st session of the regional maslikhat.

According to MIA «Kazinform», the akim states that on 11,712 hectares — which is 94% of irrigated areas — water-saving technologies are already being used, including sprinkler and drip irrigation. The remaining 729 hectares continue to be irrigated using the ditch system.

Kaiupov noted that of the 50 hydraulic structures in the region, 25 are in need of repair. Of these, three are republican-level facilities, twenty are municipal, and two are private.

«In 2024, reconstruction and routine repair work was carried out on 10 reservoirs (four republican, six municipal). Currently, preparation of design and estimate documentation for the reconstruction of 14 reservoirs is underway,» said Tilepbergen Kaiupov.

He also reported that to reduce the risk of spring flooding in the region, 18 protective dams have been restored, and work on another is nearing completion. The total length of the protective structures is 37.1 km.

Recall that in July, a dam in the village of Akbulak in the West Kazakhstan Region burst, the capital repair of which cost the budget 106 million tenge. According to local residents, the structure did not even withstand one spring.

At the time, villagers recorded a video address to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and the regional authorities, demanding the creation of a commission to determine the causes of the destruction.
