In the village of Akbulak in the West Kazakhstan Region, a dam burst, the major repair of which cost the budget 106 million tenge. According to local residents, the structure could not even withstand a single spring.

According to Ulysmedia.kz, the villagers recorded a video address to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and regional authorities, demanding the creation of a commission to investigate the causes of the destruction.

"On 25 April 2022, a contract was signed under which the company undertook the major repair of the dam for 106 million 400 thousand tenge," the residents stated.

The villagers claim they have no other means of collecting meltwater, which is vital for livestock and agriculture.

According to them, they appealed to the head of the rural district but received no response. Now, the village residents are demanding a prosecutor's investigation and the intervention of the country's President.

"Our concerns went unnoticed. It is possible that the design was incorrect and substandard materials were used. We ask that a commission be set up to find out why the dam burst in a single day. Hear us and take action," the appeal states.

It should be noted that problems with the quality of construction work in the country are not isolated. In May, the Atbasar District Court of the Akmola Region found the head of the Sergeevka rural district, Kairat Kozhakhmetov, guilty of negligence, which, according to the investigation, led to the flooding of 19 houses in the village of Samarka during the spring floods of 2024.

For his part, the convicted district head denies his guilt. In a video address posted on his social media page, he stated that he had been made the "scapegoat" in the situation.

In June, in the Akmola Region, a sentence was handed down to the heads of the construction department of the Atbasar District Akimat, Prestige Stroy 7 LLP and Fundamental LLP. They were found guilty of embezzling over 300 million tenge. These funds were allocated from the government's reserve in 2021 for the construction of two houses to relocate 200 families from the Atbasar District who were living in flood-prone areas.
