The former deputy head of the Shymkent anti-corruption department, Daurenbek Kozhabayev, has been convicted of giving a bribe on an especially large scale.

According to the Telegram channel "Halyqstan", the former director of school No. 130, Ulsiya Koshtanova, handed him 42 million tenge to avoid the initiation of a criminal case.

It is noted that Koshtanova has died, and the statement against Kozhabayev was written by her sister, Zubaira. Initially, the suspect evaded the investigation and was placed on the international wanted list.

During this time, the intermediary in the bribe transfer was convicted - the former department accountant, Raushan Kulymbetova, was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison. Later, Daurenbek Kozhabayev himself was detained.

The investigation into his case was handled by an investigative team comprising investigators from the Anti-Corruption Service and the National Security Committee.

The defendant did not admit his guilt, trying to draw the court's attention to numerous inconsistencies in the case. He claimed that the case was completely fabricated.

In the end, the court found Kozhabayev guilty and sentenced him to 11 years in prison in a medium-security facility. At the same time, he was ordered to pay 41 million tenge to the state. It is noted that the verdict has not yet entered into legal force and may be appealed.

Recall that the former deputy head of the Shymkent anti-corruption department, Daurenbek Kozhabayev, was detained in December last year. It was noted that he is the brother of the former deputy chairman of the Anti-Corruption Service, Maksat Kozhabayev. His other brother, Mukhtar Kozhabayev, headed the police department of the Kyzylorda region until May 2023.
