The Anti-Corruption Service, together with the National Security Committee (KNB), have detained the former deputy head of the Shymkent Anti-Corruption Department, Daurenbek Kozhabayev. He is the brother of the former deputy chairman of the Anti-Corruption Service, Maksat Kozhabayev.
According to the media, Daurenbek Kozhabayev is suspected of receiving a bribe from a school headteacher.
"The Anti-Corruption Service is investigating a criminal case against the former deputy head of the territorial department for Shymkent, D. Kozhabayev, on suspicion of receiving a bribe from the headteacher of one of the city's secondary schools in exchange for freeing her from criminal liability. Because Kozhabayev fled from the investigation, he was placed on the international wanted list. On 30 November, as a result of operational-search activities carried out by the Anti-Corruption Agency together with the KNB, he was detained and placed in a pre-trial detention centre," the Anti-Corruption Service said in a statement.
It will be recalled that in January last year, it was reported that the former deputy chairman of the Anti-Corruption Agency, Maksat Kozhabayev, had been detained.
In November, he was sentenced to 5.5 years for fraud. It was noted that Kozhabayev had conspired with businessman Zakir Gulamov, to whom he promised to assist the acting head of the Astana Transport Control Inspectorate, Kanat Kudaibergenov, who was under investigation, in exchange for $100,000.
